Plenty of footballers win a Serie A title once. Very few do it with two different clubs, and fewer still do it after being written off as a free agent. Piotr Zieliński did exactly that. He won the Scudetto with Napoli in 2023, walked out when his contract ended, and then won it again with Inter in 2025/26.
He turned 32 in May. Most midfielders his age are managing a decline. Zieliński spent last season hitting goals from outside the box. He has two years left on his deal, and he remains one of the more quietly important players in Milan.

Seventeen, Alone, in Udine
Zieliński grew up in Ząbkowice Śląskie, a small town in south-western Poland. His father, Bogusław, was a physical education teacher and one of his first coaches. He played for the local club, Orzeł Ząbkowice Śląskie, then moved on to Zagłębie Lubin.
In 2011, at 17, he left for Italy and Udinese's youth setup. That is a big ask of any teenager: new language, new tactics, no family nearby. He adapted quickly enough to make his Serie A debut the following year.
Empoli Taught Him Consistency
Talent was never the question. Reliability was. His loan at Empoli from 2014 to 2016 fixed that. Two seasons of regular minutes turned a gifted prospect into a midfielder coaches could trust every week, and bigger clubs noticed.
Eight Years Under Vesuvius
Napoli signed him in 2016, and he stayed for eight years. He made hundreds of appearances, won the Coppa Italia in 2020 and was part of the 2022/23 side that ended the club's 33-year wait for a league title.
What stands out about that spell is longevity. Coaches came and went. Tactical systems changed. Zieliński kept finding a place in the team, which says a great deal about his intelligence as well as his feet.
A Free Agent Who Made History
His Napoli contract expired in 2024, and in July he joined Inter on a four-year deal. Inter paid no standard transfer fee. That made him the first Polish player in the club's history.
From Inter's point of view, it was smart business. They got a player with more than a decade of Serie A experience for nothing up front. From his side, arriving without a fee usually gives an established player more room to negotiate a stronger salary.
The payoff came in 2025/26. He played 48 matches in all competitions, scored seven goals and added four assists as Inter won Serie A and the Coppa Italia. The club singled out his long-range shooting as an important part of the title run.

Why Coaches Keep Finding Him a Role
Zieliński is not a physical midfielder. His game rests on balance, close control and awareness. The real weapon is that he is genuinely two-footed. Defenders cannot show him onto a weaker side because he doesn't really have one.
- Under pressure: he receives cleanly and turns fast in either direction.
- Around the box: comfortable in short combinations and a threat from distance with either foot.
- Deeper: willing to drop in and help move the ball through midfield.
That range is why he has played as a number eight, an attacking midfielder and a deeper playmaker. For a coach juggling a long season, that flexibility is worth a lot. On the international stage, it has made him one of Poland's most recognisable players of his generation, with appearances at several European Championships and World Cups.

Salary and Net Worth: Our Numbers
Icon Polls estimates Zieliński's net worth at $15 million to $20 million in 2026. He has never published a figure, so treat this as editorial analysis based on his long career at the top of Italian football, his club contracts, bonuses, international appearances and likely commercial income.
His estimated gross salary at Inter for 2026/27 is about €8.33 million a year, roughly €160,000 a week before tax and bonuses. Clubs rarely publish wages, so this is a well-supported estimate rather than an official number.
Is the range fair? We think so. He has earned at a high level since his Napoli years, and the free transfer to Inter probably improved his terms. Tax and living costs in Italy mean the gross salary and what he keeps are very different things, which is why we stay cautious at the top of the range.
Laura, Maksymilian and Maja
His wife is Laura Zielińska, born Laura Słowiak. They come from the same hometown and reportedly began dating in 2013. He proposed in 2017, and they married on 15 June 2019 in Ząbkowice Śląskie. Laura studied medical analytics and has a following of her own for her style, but the couple share only selected moments.
They have two children. Their son, Maksymilian, was born in May 2021. Their daughter, Maja Melissa, arrived on 26 May 2025, and Laura announced the news on Mother's Day in Poland. The children are kept well away from daily sports coverage, which feels like the right call.
On Faith, He Says Little
Zieliński doesn't talk about religion in interviews. The couple's 2019 wedding was a church ceremony in Poland, and reports described it as a sacramental marriage. That points to a Polish Catholic family background, which is common in the country. Beyond that, how much faith shapes his daily life is something he keeps to himself, and we won't guess.
