What Is Benjamin Pavard Worth Now That Marseille Sent Him Back to Inter? (2026)

Benjamin Pavard is back at Inter this season, but not because anyone in Milan asked for him. Marseille had the option to keep him and chose not to use it. That is an awkward way to start a season for a man with a World Cup winner's medal and a Champions League title. It also makes 2026 the most interesting year of his career since 2018.

He is 30. He has two years left on his Inter contract. His reputation is bigger than his current role. The rest of this piece looks at how he got here, what he is likely worth, and what is still unclear.

From Maubeuge to Munich

Pavard grew up in Maubeuge, in France's far north. He started at US Jeumont and then joined Lille's academy. The breakthrough came after he left France. At Stuttgart, which he joined in 2016, he became a regular, helped the club win promotion and turned into one of the Bundesliga's most promising defenders.

Bayern Munich signed him in 2019. The four seasons that followed were the most successful of his career. He won four Bundesliga titles and was part of the 2019/20 side that won the treble: league, German Cup and Champions League. He also added the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup. He was rarely the headline name in that team. He was the reliable one who kept turning up.

The Volley That Followed Him Everywhere

Plenty of people outside France still know Pavard mainly for one swing of his right boot. In the 2018 World Cup round of 16 against Argentina, he met a dropping ball and volleyed it into the far corner. It was later named the tournament's best goal. Fans still argue about which tournament was the greatest ever, and you can add your view in our vote on the best World Cups of all time.

The goal hides the more important fact. A young right-back from Stuttgart started the final and finished as a world champion. Four years later he was part of the France squad that reached the 2022 final and lost to Argentina on penalties.

Why He Chose Milan

Pavard left Bayern for Inter in August 2023 for a reported fee of around €30 million, with possible bonuses. His reason was simple and, frankly, sensible. He wanted to play centre-back, not be the man moved to right-back whenever the squad was short. Inter's three-man defence gave him that role on the right of the back three.

It worked straight away. Inter won Serie A in his first season, so Pavard now had league titles in Germany and Italy. The problem came later. Clubs with a deep squad of centre-backs don't have to keep a player just because he has won things.

A Year in Marseille, and a Door That Stayed Shut

On 1 September 2025, Inter loaned him to Marseille with an option to buy. It took him back to French club football and closer to home. He made more than 30 appearances, which was the point of the loan. The team did not match the success he had at Bayern or Inter.

Marseille then declined to buy him. Pavard thanked the club and returned to Inter. His market value was estimated at about €12 million in June 2026. That is a large drop for a player once regarded as a sure starter at a top club, and it is worth being honest about. Thirty-plus appearances were enough to show he could still play regularly. They were not enough to persuade Marseille to pay a permanent fee plus his wages.

The Money: Estimates, Not Accounts

Pavard has never published his finances, so any figure here is an estimate. Icon Polls estimates his net worth in 2026 at £48 million to £52 million. That is based on a decade of wages at major European clubs, reported salary history, bonuses, international tournament earnings and likely commercial income.

His estimated fixed gross salary for 2026/27 is about €6.41 million a year, or roughly €123,000 a week before tax. Performance incentives could push the total higher. That salary is also his biggest obstacle in the transfer market. Any buying club would need to cover a fee and wages that match what a World Cup winner expects.

Is There Still a Place for Him at Inter?

The case for Pavard is the one that has followed him throughout his career: versatility. He can play centre-back in a back four, on the right of a back three, or at right-back. He reads play early rather than relying on pace. He passes cleanly from defence, and he will step into midfield when space opens. At 1.86 metres he holds his own in the air, although that has never been his main strength.

The case against him is not really about ability. Inter have several centre-backs, and coming back from a loan does not guarantee a starting place. With two years left on the deal, Inter can keep him, try to sell him or loan him out again. Our latest confirmed information, from early August 2026, has him as an Inter player under contract until 2028. Beyond that, his fitness, the coach's plans and the market will decide. In our view, Pavard needs a club where his job is clearly defined, not another season as the useful extra.

Married, a Father, and Quiet About Faith

Off the pitch, the past two years have changed a lot for him. Pavard is married to Kleofina Pnishi, a French-Kosovar actress and model who competed in Miss France 2018 as Miss Provence. The couple reportedly began dating in 2022. He proposed in Albania in July 2024, and they married in July 2025 at a celebration lasting several days on Italy's Amalfi Coast. The wedding included civil and religious ceremonies. In July 2026 they announced the birth of their daughter, Lena Rose. They share some family moments publicly but keep most of their home life private.

On religion, the honest answer is that Pavard has not confirmed his faith in any reliable public statement. Some biography sites describe him as Christian or Catholic without citing him. A religious wedding ceremony can reflect family or cultural tradition as much as personal belief, so we don't treat it as proof.
