Most wingers who reach LaLiga get there through a famous academy and a smooth promotion. Alfon Gonzalez got there by packing a bag over and over again. Albacete, Madrid, Getafe, Vigo, Santander, Murcia, back to Vigo, then Seville and Villarreal. Nine clubs, counting reserve sides, before he turned 27.
That route is exactly why he is interesting. A player who arrived at Sevilla on a free transfer in July 2025 was, six months later, being loaned to Villarreal with a reported purchase option of around 7 million euros attached. Something in his game made clubs pay attention. The question is whether the numbers back it up.

Albacete to Vigo by the back roads
Alfon came through the Albacete youth system and made his senior debut as a teenager. In 2017 he played for Spain at Under 18 level, which suggested a quick rise. It didn't happen that way.
Instead came loans to DUX Internacional de Madrid and Getafe B, then a move to Celta de Vigo B in July 2021 for a fee of about 250,000 euros. That remains the only transfer fee ever paid for him. He had already tasted LaLiga by then: on January 8, 2021, he came on for Fran Beltran in a Celta match against Villarreal. A cameo, not a breakthrough.
Racing Santander and Real Murcia followed on loan. Plenty of players drift out of the professional game at this stage. Alfon kept going.
The season that changed the conversation
Back at Celta Fortuna for 2023/24, he scored 15 goals in the Primera Federacion and helped the club to promotion. For a wide player in Spain's third tier, that is a serious return, and it earned him a place in Celta's first team squad.
He made it count. In 2024/25 he played 26 LaLiga games, scoring 5 goals and adding 2 assists. Not headline numbers, but solid ones for a player getting his first proper run in the top flight at 25. When his Celta deal ran out, Sevilla signed him as a free agent in July 2025 and tied him down until June 2028.
Six months, two badges
Sevilla didn't keep him long. He played 10 league games there in the first half of 2025/26, scored once, and was loaned to Villarreal in January 2026. At Villarreal he wore the number 11, made 10 more appearances and scored 1 goal in 330 minutes, starting 3 times.
The loan was set to run until the end of the 2025/26 season. Reports said it included a purchase option of roughly 7 million euros. Icon Polls has not been able to confirm whether Villarreal triggered that option, so treat his club status for 2026/27 as something to check against official club announcements.
Reading 2025/26 between the injuries

His combined 2025/26 LaLiga figures in our records look thin at first glance:
- 20 appearances and 638 minutes across Sevilla and Villarreal
- 2 goals, about 0.28 per 90 minutes
- 17 shots, 10 on target (around 59 percent accuracy)
- Non penalty expected goals of 0.41 per 90, in the 92nd percentile among LaLiga players
That last number is the one that matters. It says he keeps getting into good shooting positions, more often than almost everyone in the division. The finishing hasn't fully caught up, but the underlying process is strong.
Context helps too. An ankle injury in September 2025 kept him out until late October. A short illness cost him a few days in December, and a calf problem in January 2026 sidelined him into February. None of it was serious on its own, but together it meant a season of restarts, plus a mid season move. Hard conditions for any winger who relies on sharpness.
Across his LaLiga career so far, the tally stands at 48 appearances, 7 goals and 2 assists.
How he plays
He is small, light and quick. At 1.72 m and about 60 kg he won't win many physical battles, so he doesn't try to. His low centre of gravity lets him change direction sharply, and he likes running at defenders and getting in behind them.
Being right footed on the left side shapes everything. He is not a touchline hugger who crosses from the byline. He cuts inside, shoots, and makes runs into central areas, which is why that expected goals figure is so healthy. He can also play through the middle or on the right, and that flexibility makes him useful to coaches juggling a squad.
The money: estimates, not payslips
Nothing about his wages has been made public. Players at his level in LaLiga are commonly thought to earn somewhere between 500,000 and 1.5 million euros a year, and given that he joined Sevilla on a free, his deal is likely toward the moderate end of that range. That is an informed guess, not a reported figure.
Icon Polls estimates his net worth at $3 million to $6 million as of 2026, based on his playing contracts across a long career and his rising profile. He is not one of the league's big earners, and nobody should pretend otherwise.
What the 7 million euro option says
Market value estimates for Alfon vary, generally falling between about 3 million and 6 million euros. His old pre contract arrangement at Celta reportedly carried a penalty clause of around 5 million to 6 million euros, and the Villarreal option sat at roughly 7 million.
Here is our read. For a 27 year old with modest goal totals, that option is a bet on the underlying data: a winger who consistently creates high quality chances and has only lacked a long, healthy run. If he gets one, those goal numbers should rise. If the injuries keep coming, the valuation will look generous.
Where does a grafter like Alfon sit among football's all time greats? Nowhere near them, and he'd probably admit it. But if you have strong views on who does belong at the top, cast your vote for the best football players of all time.
Three quick answers
Is Alfon Gonzalez left footed?
No. He is right footed, which is why he so often cuts inside from the left wing to shoot.
Has he played for Spain's senior team?
Not yet. His only international appearances came at Under 18 level in 2017.
What was his best season?
His 15 goal 2023/24 campaign with Celta Fortuna in the Primera Federacion stands out overall. In LaLiga, his 2024/25 season at Celta, with 5 goals and 2 assists, is his best so far.
